Susan Rockefeller has loved nature since she was a child creating sandcastles by the ocean off the coast of Long Island.  Her life has been immersed at the intersection of art, nature and sustainability.  She finds refuge in her love of gardens and joy as an artist. Through her art, Susan explores themes of nature, light and shadow, its mystery and our place in it. 

Susan created 'Muses, Nature Knows' with a hero product, Neck Potion No. 9, crafted for those who spend their days immersed in screens. The product harnesses the power of botanicals and beta-caryophyllene to lift spirits and invigorate the senses. Her brand inspiration was conceived during time on her farm in the Hudson Valley where she reconnected to plant-based, holistic traditions of wellness and renewal.

Inspired by an Alaskan Landscape,
Invigorated by a Global Landscape

Having grown up spending time in nature, Susan pursued an undergraduate degree in Environmental Studies and, shortly after graduation, spent three years living with the Inuit in Alaska. Susan saw first-hand the power of living in harmony with nature. She was enlightened by this experience and sought to inspire others to lessen their environmental footprint and to be more conscious of their impact. These experiences were formative in the creation of Muses.

The goal of Muses is to drive a desire to accelerate sustainability in our daily lives and provide pain relief. As advocates of balanced living, we hope that we can inspire our community to move away from consumption and towards creativity. The associative power of scent and memory is a critical component in designing the therapeutic experience of Muses. Through memory-linked design, we endeavor to explore the natural aroma of essential oils in order to deliver a soothing experience. Our nature-based formulas not only benefit us through relieving pain but also the planet. 

Providing Renewal & Rejuvenation

Through Muses, Susan hopes to encourage people to take a moment to pause and take time to connect with themselves and the environment around them.  Susan has a deep appreciation of essentialism and what is needed most for humans to thrive — she believes in healing our soils and our seas as reflected in her philanthropic work with Oceana and Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture.

She is also founder of Musings, a digital magazine highlighting responsible innovation and ideas for a better world.Through her new company Muses, she invites you to celebrate the powerful scents and healing qualities of plants through these exquisitely branded products.  Susan also hopes that the No. 9 Collection will inspire a moment to invoke your own muse, find a pause to breathe...creating a sense of respite and peace from the noise around you.
